Shepherd and Wedderburn

Background

Shepherd and Wedderburn is one of the UK's leading law firms with offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and London. By turnover they are in the top four legal practices in Scotland.

The firm uses seminars to attract their mainly corporate business, and had experimented with "e-bulletins" to similarly keep their clients and prospects abreast with the latest legal development affecting companies.

The previous website, although content managed, did not allow their in-house marketing team to update and publish e-marketing communications with the flexibility they required.

What we did

We worked with the client to identify what their needs were and how we could implement functionality to automate some of the process that currently took up a lot of time.

Our solution included all the standard functionality associated with a CMS, as well as additional tools our CMS framework provides, for example, AJAX drag-and-drop ordering, inline image editors, subscriber database management, work flow authorisation etc. The processes that were automated included integration with back office systems to feed client details, partner information, event registration and news feeds from third party sources.

Additionally we developed functionality to include content managed polls and quizzes, and a taxonomy system to associate related content and publish these as promotional areas throughout the website to encourage further interaction.

Results

With this increased functionality in both the website and email marketing system, Shepherd and Wedderburn are now able to conduct all of their communications via the CMS in relation to seminars, events and e-bulletins.

Analytics show that average page views per visit have increased, and the success of the redevelopment is further shown in a 124% increase in subscribers since the site was launched, allowing Shepherd and Wedderburn to more efficiently and cost effectively target their clients.

To cap it all, a SiteMorse survey placed the site in the top 15% of all UK business websites, achieving 100% compliance with the W3C industry standard Level A accessibility guidelines.
